I have created art all of my life with an aim to make it unique and fresh. I work on commissions, interior murals and exhibition pieces in my home studio near Toronto. As well, I work as a scenic artist in film through IATSE.
And now those essential art credentials!
While in University, I worked in an originals gallery and learned the world of art dealing, from the mundane framing to acquisitions at auctions. In 1994, I earned my Bachelor of Fine Art at the renown Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada. Among my studio advisors were such artistic luminaries as Garry Kennedy, Susan Wood, Ed Porter, Leya Evelyn and the late Gerald Ferguson.
It was there that I won a Third Prize in the Liquitex International Student Art Award in painting for six submitted works; the only student at the college to do so in any discipline. This competition was open to 6 continents, excluding Europe, which made the award very exciting, indeed.
I augmented my studio work at NSCAD with summer programmes in Europe and England.
I attended the English Art History program at University of Cambridge in the U.K which allowed me plenty of time to see England's finest art galleries, including the National Portrait Gallery and the always exciting Tate Gallery.
I attended the summer programme of figure painting at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College of London, London.
Through the Fine Art Department of Wilfrid Laurier University, I travelled to Paris and Vienna, and earned two credits in drawing and art history with Ilse Friesen. My studio instructor at WLU was the late and wonderful Michal Manson.
Since graduating, I have been represented by various galleries, including Golden Horse Gallery in California, Kensington Gallery in Calgary and Secord Gallery in Halifax. I have participated in solo and group exhibitions in public and commercial spaces across the country and create commission pieces of all subject matters. My scenic painting in film has developed into mural painting in the off season.
I have collectors in the U.S.A., Canada, and the U.K. My work is purchased by private and corporate collectors and by interior designers.
